The I Clean MySea start-up is developing an application for signalling marine plastic waste combined with solutions for collecting and recycling this waste. A fundraising campaign through participatory financing will be launched on the Ekosea platform.

“I Clean My Sea is a social and solidarity economy company created in March 2019 with the support of the Basque Country Urban Community*. I came to Bidart in June 2018 to the ESTIA Entreprendre incubator at the Izarbel Technology Park to start this collaborative application project to detect, collect and recover marine plastic waste," explains Aymeric Jouon, a trained oceanographer who was in charge of a pollution response vessel for four years.

At Izarbel, Aymeric Jouon is working on a project for a mobile website and smartphone application that will allow all ocean users to take part in the fight against plastic pollution at sea. The application should allow users to take a picture of a floating plastic waste and then process the information (position, predicted trajectory) so that boats can then recover the waste.

In addition to this application, Aymeric Jouon wishes to strengthen his pollution control activity by using satellite images to identify piles of plastic waste at sea and/or by installing video cameras at river mouths to identify 80% of plastics that arrive there. Offshore collection systems are already being developed and solutions for the use of recovered waste are being studied. At the end of August, I Clean My Sea will launch a participatory fundraising campaign on the Ekosea platform with the objective of subsidizing part of the application's development.
