In association with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the Institute of Mechanics and Engineering of Bordeaux, the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the SEIV company, the Addimadour platform welcomes a doctoral student and post-doctoral researcher.

“This is a research project that was launched last November,” explains Olivier Larre, head of Addimadour – the platform for innovation and technology transfer in additive manufacturing based at the Technocité Technology Park. “The aim of the project is to get a better understanding of what is involved in additive manufacturing by comparing two processes – a powder-bed process and a powder-projection process.”

The name of the project, OCEAN-ALM – made up of letters from the words Optimisation and Conception of an Advanced Methodology for Additive Layer Manufacturing – was chosen by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region as part of its “Factory of the Future” plan. The aim is to support research and development in the area of metallic ALM technologies at the Institute of Mechanics and Engineering of Bordeaux (I2M) and the Izarbel engineering school, ESTIA. The Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the SEIV company in Mérignac are also partners in the project.

The outcome of the OCEAN project will greatly enhance the ability of the Addimadour and I2Met platforms to meet the needs of business, particularly SMEs that are weighing up the benefits of these technologies. For a three-year period, the Addimadour platform will host an ESTIA student working on a thesis on additive metal manufacturing, who will be joined, in September 2019, by a post-doctoral researcher on a one-year specialisation.
