Kapp10 changes its strategy

Drawing inspiration from social media, the Kapp10 application, which until now offered a means of sharing sporting challenges, is evolving into digital marketing services for foot-race organisers. It has been selected by Sud Ouest’s start-up accelerator.

Gillen Gamiochipi, President of Kappsports, is now dividing his time between Izarbel Technology Park in Bidart, where he launched the Kapp10 application in July 2015, and Bordeaux, where he joined the Théophraste start-up accelerator with his associate in the middle of February 2017 (for six months). This integrator, created by Sud Ouest, occupies the premises of the local daily newspaper.

To begin with, Kapp10 allowed every athlete (amateur or professional) to create a sporting moment (progress, performance) and publish it in the application, complete with images, explanations or geolocation. Inspired by social media that allow you to share information, the application was counting on interest and partnerships from sporting equipment brands drawn in by the athletics communities created by Kapp10.

“We have met several major players in the sporting and start-up world over these past two years,” explains Gillen Gamiochipi. “By listening and concentrating on their difficulties, we have switched out strategy to concentrate on foot-racing events, and the creation of a digital marketing platform which offers turnkey services to race organisers and timekeepers. The Kapp10 application is gradually becoming a complementary communication tool based on the transmission of results from the finish line. We have also made a blog dedicated to running.”

Being integrated into Sud Ouest’s start-up accelerator will allow them to “enrich the technical platform in order to go from being a service for the general public (for example, sending the runner his race results to his smartphone), to services offered to the profession as a whole (race calendars, training advice, inscription confirmation, race results or virtual vouchers)” he added. The fact that Kapp10 was chosen by Théophraste, a start-up accelerator, is a testament to its potential, as is Sud Ouest’s desire to reinforce its sporting presence.
