The Basque Country Digital Cluster welcomes the Assistant Prefect to Izarbel

Hervé Jonathan, Assistant Prefect of Bayonne, came to meet the officials of the Basque Country Digital Cluster and visited numerous companies of the Izarbel Technology Park. 

On 7 November, Hervé Jonathan, Assistant Prefect of Bayonne since February 2018, was welcomed to Izarbel Technology Park by the managers of the Basque Country Technology Park. Ms Marie Jo Burucoa, president of the association which brings together 60 companies in the digital sector of the Basque Country and Adour and represents around 1,500 jobs, outlined the five main areas of work. The Cluster is committed to the development of inter-company activities and cooperation, promotion of the sector, recruitment and internships, training and innovation, and the sharing of resources and services.

The meetings - in which the Regional Directorate of Enterprise, Competition, Consumption, Labour and Employment (DIRECCTE Nouvelle-Aquitaine) was involved - focused on cross-border cooperation, vocational training, the Cluster's role in New Aquitaine with other digital actors and the region’s appeal in terms of jobs and careers.

Digital companies

After this meeting, Mr Jonathan was able to explore the operations of companies such as Izarbel Exakis, Wikicampers, Izarlink and Novaldi. Exakis, a specialist in Microsoft consulting and expertise was created in 2001 at Izarbel. Today Exakis is one of the eight specialised affiliates of the Magellan Partners Group, and has nearly 400 employees in France. Wikicampers offers a web platform that broadcasts ads for motorhome rentals between individuals. The company provides a range of services such as insurance, secure payment, rental contracts and practical advice, and is designed to optimise transactions. The start-up was founded in 2012 at Izarbel and now has around 20 employees.

Managed by Jean-Louis Mélin, Izarlink is a telecommunications operator providing very high-speed Internet connections. In business for the last 4 years, the company has already provided 200 kilometres of fibre in the Basque Country and the Adour Basin to companies and local authorities. Launched by Marie-Jo and Xavier Burucoa on the Izarbel site, Novaldi is a digital services company specialising in the creation of websites and web applications. After 16 years of business, the company now employs around 10 people.
