Under the management of Patxi Elissalde, its director, ESTIA (Higher College of Advanced Industrial Technologies) based at the Izarbel Technology Park is expanding both internationally and locally with the project for a third building.

On 16 October, Patxi Elissalde received a delegation from the Chinese University of Jiangsu to sign a partnership with this institution which has more than 35,000 students and is well known for the quality of its engineering course. “ESTIA already has agreements with three Chinese educational establishments for student exchanges. We are hosting around twelve of these students this year. The aim of this new partnership with the University of Jiangsu is to create a shared educational venue to train engineers who are trilingual in French, English and Chinese. In three years’ time, we expect to be hosting 20 to 25 Chinese students every year” explained Patxi Elissalde. Already associated with the British universities of Cranfield, Wolverhampton and Salford-Manchester and the Bilbao Engineering College for a double diploma course, ESTIA is therefore increasing its international expansion.

ESTIA is also expanding locally with new constructions. A building with 45 housing rental units constructed via a partnership with the City of Bidart and Office 64 de l’ Habitat was opened on 3 October in the centre of Bidart. The Erleak residence is intended mainly for ESTIA students in order to meet the housing requirements of the college’s student engineers. “It's a superb achievement which makes ESTIA's more attractive. I hope that this operation will lead to others” commented Patxi Elissalde. Still in support of the college’s expansion, a third building with a surface area of 4500 m² should shortly be constructed on the Izarbel site to accommodate its educational activities. “The building permit application for ESTIA's third building has just been submitted and the first work is planned for next spring” stated Patxi Elissalde, Finally, to complete the news, ESTIA will be welcoming the scientist, astronaut, and former minister Claudie Haigneré for the traditional graduation ceremony held on 18 November in Biarritz.
